Before you start
- For each tenant: their name, phone number, monthly rent and the day it is due.
- Whether each tenant is up to date with rent, or from which month they owe.
01
Do it in this order
- Add your first property: choose Properties, then Add property. See Add a property for the details.
- When Tezeka asks whether someone is living there now, choose Yes, add them now. You go straight to adding that tenant.
- When asked Is their rent up to date?, answer honestly. Tezeka only counts rent as owed from the month you say, so an old lease start date never shows as money missing.
- Add your own WhatsApp number under Settings then Notifications, so Tezeka can reach you and recognise you when you message it.
- Open the dashboard. You can now see what is collected, what is still due and what needs you first.
NoteEvery add form has a What you'll need panel at the top. Open it before you start, so you are never stopped halfway to go and look something up.
02
Already keep records in a spreadsheet?
You do not have to type everything in again. Send your spreadsheet to support@tezeka.com and we will bring your properties, tenants and rent into Tezeka for you, then tell you what to check.
If you prefer to do it yourself, properties can be imported in one go from the Properties page, and past payments from Payments with Import history. See Reconcile payments and bring in old history.
03
What to set up next
Once the basics are in: send each tenant's lease for signing, switch on alerts on your phone, and add a passkey so your account is locked properly. Each has its own page in this guide.
If something goes wrong
My dashboard says I am owed rent I was actually paid.
The tenant was added with an old start date and no answer to Is their rent up to date?. Open the tenant, record the payments they made, or write off months that were settled before you joined Tezeka.
I added a tenant but they are not linked to a property.
Open the tenant and choose the property and unit they live in.
