Where to start

The order that works

Each step builds on the one before it. Follow them in order the first time; after that, go straight to the chapter you need.

  1. 1

    Everything on WhatsApp

Reminders, receipts and updates arrive in your chat.

  2. 2

    Pay & prove it

Send a photo or PDF of your receipt. Tezeka reads it and passes it to your landlord to confirm.

  3. 3

    Check your balance

Ask what you owe or see your payment history any time.

  4. 4

    Report an issue

Log a maintenance request and get status updates.

  5. 5

    Verify your lease

Scan the QR to confirm your signed agreement is genuine.

  6. 6

    Your privacy

Your records are stored securely, and your ID number is never sent in a message.

In one place

Everything you can do

Send proof, check your balance and report issues, all from your Tezeka chat. Your landlord confirms your payment, and you get the receipt.

  • Rent reminders
  • Landlord confirmation
  • Receipts
  • Balance checks
  • Maintenance requests
  • Repair confirmation
  • Lease verification
  • Payment history

Chapter 1

Everything happens in your WhatsApp chat

There is no app to install and no password to remember.

  1. Your landlord adds you, and Tezeka messages you on WhatsApp. Keep that chat: it is where reminders, receipts and repair updates arrive.
  2. Send MENU at any time to see what you can do. HELP, HI and START do the same thing.
  3. You can type normally. Tezeka reads plain questions like “what do I owe?” as well as the short words.
  4. Send STOP if you want to stop receiving messages. Your records stay with your landlord either way.

Chapter 2

Sign your lease on your phone

The one time you leave the chat for a web page.

  1. Your landlord sends you a private link. Open it on your own phone; it is meant for you alone.
  2. At Verify, choose where to receive your code. It goes only to the contact your landlord already has for you.
  3. Enter the code. It lasts ten minutes and allows five attempts, so ask for a new one rather than guessing.
  4. At Review, read the terms properly, then Sign. Check the rent, the dates and the address before you sign, not after.

Chapter 3

Check what you owe

Any time, without asking your landlord.

  1. Send BALANCE in your chat. “How much do I owe?” works too.
  2. Tezeka replies with what is outstanding and when it is due, based on what your landlord has confirmed so far.
  3. Send HISTORY to see your past payments instead of just the current balance.

Chapter 4

Pay your rent

You pay your landlord directly, the way you always have.

  1. Send HOW TO PAY. Tezeka replies with your landlord's payment details.
  2. Pay them by mobile money, bank transfer or cash, exactly as you would without Tezeka. The money goes to your landlord, not to Tezeka.
  3. Keep whatever the payment gave you: the mobile money message, a slip, a screenshot.

Chapter 5

Send proof after you pay

The step that gets your payment onto the record.

  1. Send the photo or PDF of your payment straight into the chat. You can also send I HAVE PROOF first and Tezeka will ask for it.
  2. Tezeka reads it and records the payment against your tenancy, then tells your landlord it is waiting.
  3. Your landlord checks it against what reached them and confirms it. Your rent is marked paid at that point, not when you send the proof.
  4. Send RECEIPT once it is confirmed to get your receipt for that payment.

Chapter 6

Report something broken

And say whether the fix actually worked.

  1. Describe the problem in the chat, for example “the geyser is not working”, “there is a leak”. Words like REPAIR, BROKEN and LEAK all reach the same place.
  2. Send a photograph of the problem. It saves an argument later about what was wrong.
  3. Your landlord or their agent logs it, assigns someone and updates you in the chat. If a visit needs you at home, they should tell you the time first.
  4. When the work is marked done, say so: RESOLVED if it is fixed, or NOT FIXED if it is not. That answer goes on the record.

Chapter 7

Get your lease and check it is genuine

Useful when someone asks you to prove where you live.

  1. Send LEASE in the chat. AGREEMENT and CONTRACT work as well.
  2. Tezeka sends you the link to your signed agreement.
  3. Your signed lease carries a QR code and a reference. Anyone can scan it to confirm the agreement is real, without an account.
  4. A scan shows only that the agreement exists and when it was signed. It does not show your name, your rent or your address, so verifying costs you no privacy.

Chapter 8

Renew, move out, or send a meter reading

The occasional things, in the same chat.

  1. Send WANT TO RENEW to tell your landlord you would like to stay on. It reaches them as a request, with a record of when you asked.
  2. Send MOVE OUT to give notice. Check your lease for how much notice you owe, because the message does not change what you agreed.
  3. Send METER READING where your landlord asks for readings, then the number when prompted.
